Warm Wednesdays in December

Warm Wednesdays in December

In December 2024, our institute held regular meetings as part of the "Warm Wednesday" project - a platform for open communication, self-reflection, and discussion of current psychological topics.

This time we decided to broaden our horizons: the events were open not only to students and staff of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages, but also to guests. We sought to provide support, offer new perspectives, and find like-minded people in our warm circle.

On December 11, the topic of the meeting was dedicated to the question "Why is it sometimes difficult to understand each other?" The presenter was Tetyana Borozentseva, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Head of the Psychology Department of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages. The participants actively discussed the objective and subjective reasons for mutual misunderstanding, in particular the influence of different experiences, values, labels and "mind reading". The importance of openly and honestly expressing one's feelings and thoughts, avoiding assumptions and seeking understanding through communication was emphasized. The practical part included techniques for dispelling illusions and developing effective communication skills.

The next meeting took place on December 18, the topic of which was “How to Overcome Anxiety and Insecurity.” The meeting began with an open dialogue, where each participant had the opportunity to share their experiences, views, and needs. This helped create an atmosphere of trust and mutual support, which became the basis for further work.

Some shared that self-doubt causes a constant feeling of anxiety. Others admitted to having a fear of public speaking, and some noted that new situations or unfamiliar environments cause them great discomfort. Participants also spoke about such difficulties as:

  • fear of criticism and condemnation from others;
  • anxiety before important life changes;
  • uncertainty in making decisions due to fear of making mistakes;
  • anxiety related to the need to meet the expectations of others;
  • fear of saying “no” and setting personal boundaries.

During the meeting, participants not only discussed these problems, but also worked on overcoming them. Effective exercises were offered, including “And that’s good because…”, to find the positive aspects in any circumstances. Special attention was paid to understanding how the inner critic can help rethink the situation, as well as the importance of action and self-examination. The motto of the meeting emphasized: “The journey brings joy, not the destination.”

Both meetings created a unique atmosphere of support, trust, and development, inspiring participants to improve their skills of mutual understanding and emotional stability.

We invite you to join the upcoming "Warm Wednesday" events!
