"Can't afford it": Why it's important for us to be able to rejoice in times of war

"Is it appropriate for me to be happy?", or "Do I have the right to be happy?". Most often, this happens to those who are in relative safety or the rear. We tell you why we need to be able to feel positive emotions and not blame ourselves for them.

THERE ARE NO FORBIDDEN EMOTIONS

Even in the most difficult conditions, there are no forbidden emotions and feelings. If you think that now it is "legal" to feel only pain, anger, hatred, you are wrong. You should not hide or distance yourself from positive emotions, because they give us a sense of balance in a difficult situation. Joy is a basic emotion. Its occurrence indicates that our neurotransmitters are working normally or at least within a conditional norm. And in the current situation, to feel positive emotions is to grab hold of the lifeline of the future. It should always be remembered: war, despite its deadly breath, is a part of life. And life is always a story about faith, hope and love, and there is no way without joy!

LAUGHTER THROUGH TEARS

Laughter is therapy. He is able to treat, heal, maintain mental health, prevent the development of various nervous disorders.

HOW DOES LAUGHTER WORK?

Laughter reduces the release of stress hormones - cortisol and adrenaline. This increases the production of endorphins and serotonin, which are responsible for reducing pain and improving mood.

When you laugh, or at least smile, blood flow to the brain increases, it receives more oxygen, which positively affects the emotional state. Laughter helps to relieve muscle tension in the body, because the shoulders move, the diaphragm vibrates, and the muscles of the back, neck and face relax. It occurs reflexively. We don't decide when to laugh, our brain does it naturally and spontaneously.

Laughter is an element of unity. After all, it is a social emotion that brings people together and helps establish connections. Therefore, when we create jokes that reflect our difficult reality, we thus form strong relationships between all Ukrainians and even the world.

Laughter is a weapon! Jokes help us express contempt for a common enemy, lift our spirits, and bring victory closer. By the way, when you laugh from the heart, your body is able to recover and reboot, like after fitness. Therefore, if you do not have the opportunity to go to the gym, charge yourself with a portion of high-quality humor or satire.

TO MAKE LAUGHING EASIER:

  • Start your morning with a smile. Even if the mood is bad, try to stretch the muscles of the face into a smile several times, make faces or read jokes.
  • Watch comedies. Yes, yes, it is comedies that are right now, because they have an anesthetic effect.
  • Subscribe not only to news channels, but also to humorous and satirical ones.
  • Keep a "funny diary": record funny incidents from your life in your phone's notepad or share them on social networks.
