Ukrainian-Polish student meeting "From heart to heart"

Ukrainian-Polish student meeting "From heart to heart"

On April 23, 2024, members of the historical student research group of the Horliv Institute of Foreign Languages took part in the first online meeting of Ukrainian and Polish students "Heart to Heart: Dialogue in the Conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian War", organized by the Humanities Faculty of the Ukrainian Catholic University together with the International Expert Group "The Cossack Factor in the Russian-Ukrainian War" and the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University (Poland). The moderators of the meeting were Professor of the Ukrainian Catholic University Vadym Zadunaiskyi and Doctor of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University Stanislav Gurka.

The work of the round table was attended by representatives of higher education institutions of Ukraine (HIIM, UKU, higher education institutions of Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv) and Poland (Jagiellonian, Rzeszów and Poznań universities).

The work of the round table involved three components (the so-called "circles"). The first round was devoted to the issue "Russian armed aggression: measurements, evaluations and personal experience of Ukrainian students", during which students from Ukrainian higher education institutions shared their personal experience of the war. GIIIM students Yuliya Medvedkina (gr. 202a), Vladyslava Khmelyk (gr. 102a) and Valeriya Tkachenko (gr. 202a) touched the participants of the event with painful, emotional memories of the first days and months of the war.

The second round was aimed at discussing the issue of "The Russian-Ukrainian war: regional, European and global dimensions" and provided for the exchange of opinions and impressions, answers to questions from the participants of the round table. Teachers of Ukrainian universities gratefully remembered the students and graduates who serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including those who heroically died defending their Motherland. In the course of the discussion, the head of the student research group Yuliya Stukanova, answering the questions received from Polish colleagues, talked about the experience of sustainability of the twice relocated Horliv Institute of Foreign Languages. Svitlana Lymanska (gr. 202a), a student of GIIIM, asked her Polish colleagues whether their perception of the Russian-Ukrainian war had changed during this meeting. Polish students and teachers noted that live communication and the opportunity to hear about the lived experience not from the news, but "from the first mouth" is very important and actualizes and brings closer the problems of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Polish colleagues realize that the risks of Russian aggression for Poland are real and that Ukraine protects not only itself, but also European countries.

The third round, held under the slogan "Youth interaction for the sake of the future", was devoted to the discussion of further cooperation between students of Ukraine and Poland, exchange of ideas regarding further directions and topics of communication in online and offline formats.

We sincerely thank all participants of the round table for their fruitful work and look forward to new meetings!
