Bakhmut antiquity: local lore research-2019

On October 25-26, 2019, the All-Ukrainian (with international participation) scientific-practical conference "Bakhmut antiquity: local lore research-2019" took place. For the third year in a row, this event became possible thanks to the fruitful cooperation of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages and the Bakhmut Museum of Local Lore.

Since last year, the conference is held under the auspices of a leading scientific institution - the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, its partners are the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, Donetsk National University. V. Stus, Department of Historical Heritage of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia". The conference was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages and became one of the important jubilee events.

In three years, the geography of participants has significantly expanded. It will be recalled that the first conference had the status of a regional one, the second one became an all-Ukrainian one, and this year the conference was attended by representatives of the foreign scientific community (joined by colleagues from Belarus and Kyrgyzstan). Apparently, an application was made for the desire to achieve international status in the future.

Undoubtedly, the growing interest in our conference of foreign colleagues contributes to this. Yes, the well-known expert on the history of Donbass, American researcher of Japanese origin Giroaki Kuromiya praised the importance of this scientific forum. During the plenary session, the participants were presented with a video with his greetings and reflections on the importance of the history of the Donetsk region for modern Ukrainian humanities. Mr. Giroaki also stressed the scientific importance of the collections of materials of previous conferences "Bakhmut Antiquity".

On behalf of the leadership of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, an employee of this leading scientific institution, a senior researcher at the Department of History of Ukraine of the XIX - early XX centuries. V.B. Silent. After the words of congratulations to the participants of the conference from the representatives of local authorities, the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, the management of the institute, partner organizations, an informative plenary session was held.

Among the reports delivered at this part of the conference, the speech of the director of the Scientific Library of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv VF should be singled out. Kmetya, dedicated to the famous bibliographer Fedor Maksymenko, whose biography is associated with Bakhmut and Lviv. Given the conciliar significance of the figure of this outstanding Ukrainian scholar, during the conference there were proposals to organize Maksymenko readings in Bakhmut in the coming years.

No less interesting was the work in the sections, in which teachers and students of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages, employees of the Bakhmut Museum of Local Lore, the Department of Historical Heritage of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" and representatives of the local powerful local lore movement.

The highlight of the first day of the conference was the screening of the experimental theatrical project "Silhouettes of the Past" in the format of "Living History". The development of this format is carried out within the framework of the excursion project "Routes of ancient Bakhmut", which is also a result of cooperation between the institute and the museum. The idea and organizational efforts of this action are related to the creative approach to understanding the past of our region, Professor, Head. Department of Domestic and Foreign History GIIM GP Dokashenko. It should be noted that thanks to the masterful game of students revived figures of foreign and local industrialists and entrepreneurs, burghers and peasants of Bakhmut region between the XIX - XX centuries.

The next day, the conference continued at the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages in the format of a workshop "National and patriotic education of students through Cossack pedagogy and tourism and local lore."

The participants of the conference in official and personal communication testified to the high level of organization and scientific results of the conference and confirmed the importance of continuing this tradition in the coming years for both scientific and socio-political life of the eastern region.
