Sad news from Rochester, Ukraine, came to Bakhmut, Ukraine: Volodymyr (Mirko) V. Pylyshenko (1934-2021) passed away. An American of Ukrainian descent, a man of indomitable strength of spirit and unbridled energy. The vocation of him and his family was good deeds and helping others in difficult times. We well remember coming to our city in the summer of 2018, our communication. His thirst for life was simply mesmerizing. For many years he organized a fundraiser in his hometown for the relocated school. A plaque has been unveiled in the library with the names of our benefactors so that new generations of students can understand that the sincerity of the Ukrainian soul is not just words, but concrete noble deeds.
