Psychology Week at GIIM: Day Four

Psychology Week at GIIM: Day Four

On April 24, 2025, as part of Psychology Week, a workshop was held at the GIIM on the topic "Psychological analysis of the song "Tired" by the band "NERVES".

Participants listened to the song and analyzed it from a psychological, musical and linguistic perspective, paying attention to the context of its creation and the deep meaning of the text. The song became a starting point for a conversation about collective trauma, war experiences, dissociation, existential fatigue, survivor's guilt and the search for meaning in times of crisis. The discussion also included the ideas of Viktor Frankl's logotherapy, Bessel van der Kolk's trauma theory and the concept of post-traumatic growth.

We learned that music has a powerful therapeutic potential: it helps to structure experience, express emotions and find emotional resonance in the community. The atmosphere of the workshop was warm and open, the participants actively joined the discussion, shared their thoughts and experiences. Everything went extremely well and left a deep emotional impression.

The second event of the day was a webinar on the topic “What my laziness wants to tell me”, which was held by Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology of the Institute of International Relations N.G. Kosheleva. The meeting was dedicated to the current problem of procrastination, which interferes with the implementation of current and future tasks. The psychological essence and causes of this phenomenon were considered; it was determined when procrastination interferes and in what ways it can help; what the occurrence of procrastination indicates; how to overcome the factors that cause it. It was also analyzed what is common and different between procrastination and laziness, and the conclusion was made that laziness and procrastination are not just always unwillingness to do something, but often it is a signal to our body about exhaustion and the need for rest.

However, in many cases we need to get rid of procrastination and laziness in professional or life matters. To this end, the webinar participants worked on a psychotechnic using metaphorical associative cards “My laziness, or how to get rid of it?” (author G. Zabolotna), the purpose of which is to help a person accept the fact that he or she procrastinates and help overcome procrastination and laziness in professional or life matters. During the exercise, the participants were able to find their own ways to combat laziness or procrastination and draw up an action plan that will help to do the thing that is being postponed.

At the end of the meeting, the participants noted the great practical value of the insights gained, positive emotions, inspiration and motivation to solve their tasks. The participants were also interested in the use of metaphorical maps as a tool for psychologists, which became another topic for lively discussion.
