On September 6, the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine opened a photo exhibition "Known and Unknown Ukraine", dedicated to the memory of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Viktor Mykolayovych Dokashenko (10/29/1948 - 07/28/2025). The photo exhibition is the result of the implementation of the scientific and educational project "Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Ukrainian Province". The project was implemented for 11 years from 2008 to 2019 by teachers of the Department of Domestic and Foreign History of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages of the Donbass State Pedagogical University. The initiator and permanent leader of the project was Professor V. M. Dokashenko, and its participants traveled to all regions of Ukraine.
The exhibition features 20 color author's photos, united by the theme of the history of Ukrainian statehood from ancient times (the results of archaeological excavations of the catacomb historical and cultural community in Luhansk region are presented) to the present day (the art object "Heart of Ukraine"). The tour guide at the photo exhibition was Professor Halyna Dokashenko, who noted the peculiarity of her exhibits - all the photos represent historical monuments of the Ukrainian province, and they are conventionally divided into periods - the ancient history of Ukraine, the Kiev era, the Cossack era, modern and modern history. Their organizer and leader - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University Yu. M. Brovender - shared his memories of the organization of archaeological expeditions. Students of our institute also worked as part of the expedition.
The organizers of the exhibition define its cognitive and educational value, since the formation of national memory occurs through visual images. The significance of the presented exhibits is enhanced by the fact that some of the objects presented in the photo no longer exist in reality, they were destroyed as a result of military operations. At the same time, existing objects are not always in proper condition. This confirms the need for special attention to them.
The exhibition plays another important role in the context of modern hybrid warfare – it debunks a number of myths created by a neighboring state about our history and present.
The event was attended by teachers and students, graduates of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages, and caring community representatives concerned with the preservation of Ukraine's cultural heritage. This event opens the Civil Society Week at the GIIM.
