On February 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM, a guest lecture on the topic "Psychologist at War: Crisis Interventions and What a Military Psychologist Actually Works With" was held online on the Zoom platform. The speaker of the meeting was Vladislav Vitaliyovych Zhevzhyk, a military psychologist and head of the psychological service of the 53rd Motorized Rifle Brigade.
During the lecture, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the practical experience of a military psychologist and hear about the real challenges of the profession in wartime. The speaker spoke about the structure of the psychological service in the army, the peculiarities of work organization and the role of a psychologist in supporting the psychological stability of military personnel. The main areas of activity of the specialist were highlighted, in particular, crisis interventions, psychological support of the military, the constant inclusion of a psychologist in the combat group, work with stress and fatigue, as well as the processes of rehabilitation and recovery after psycho-emotional stress.
The speaker paid special attention to crisis interventions, emphasizing that such assistance is based on clear stabilization protocols that allow for a quick response to acute psychological conditions in combat conditions. It was also emphasized that a military psychologist works not only with servicemen, but also with their rear — families, helping to survive complex emotional states associated with war. An important aspect of the work is also supporting military personnel in the process of experiencing the loss of comrades.
During the lecture, the speaker shared examples of psychodiagnostic techniques used in working with the military, in particular, PHQ-9 to identify depressive states, GAD-7 to assess the level of anxiety, and ISI (Insomnia Severity Index) to determine the level of insomnia.
The meeting was held in the format of an open dialogue and aroused considerable interest among the participants. After the main part of the lecture, an active discussion took place, during which the audience asked questions about the prevention of professional burnout, the specifics of the work of a psychologist in military units, as well as practical tools for supporting the psycho-emotional state of servicemen. The lecture became a valuable opportunity to deepen professional knowledge and gain practical understanding of the activities of a military psychologist in wartime.
