Topic: "Deception as a Strategy: From the Norm to the Extreme"
🤝 On April 15, 2026 at 6:00 PM, a meeting was held within the framework of the "Warm Wednesdays" project.
👩 Host: Alisa Fedina — master's degree holder, specialty "Psychology", GIIM.
✨ The meeting was dedicated to the study of deception as a psychological phenomenon — not only as a negative behavior, but as a strategy that can perform various functions in a person's life.
The aim of the work was to understand the causes of deception, its role in adaptation, and the line between the norm and the extreme.
💭 During the meeting, participants:
👌 distinguished between the concepts of untruth, lies and deception;
👌 discussed the reasons why people may consciously or unconsciously distort reality;
👌 investigated the functions of deception - as a way of protecting, avoiding, adapting, or preserving relationships;
👌 performed a self-reflective task: recalled their own experience of deception and its reasons;
👌 analyzed the role control plays in the use of this strategy.
🌱 The atmosphere of the meeting was open and invaluable, allowing participants to honestly look at their own experiences without fear of judgment. The discussion combined depth of reflection with ease and lively dialogue.
✨ The result was an expanded understanding of deception as a complex psychological mechanism and the realization that the key is not the fact of lying itself, but the level of awareness and responsibility in its use.
