On April 24, 2026, a workshop was held at the Resource Center for Professional Development of Teachers of the Ukrainian Language and Literature of the Department of Ukrainian Philology of the National Research Institution "Gorlivka Institute of Foreign Languages" of the State Higher Educational Institution "Donbass State Pedagogical University" "Words and Meanings: How to Read Media Critically", which united the broad educational community around the important topic of meaningful perception of information.
👩🏫 The speaker - Natalia Ponomarenko, Doctor of Philosophy, media trainer, senior lecturer at Sumy State University - offered practical approaches to developing critical thinking when working with media texts.
The event was attended by teachers from secondary schools, lecturers from colleges and higher education institutions, as well as schoolchildren and students. In total, about 200 people participated.
Participants had the opportunity to:
🔎 analyze common media manipulations;
🧐 learn to identify key meanings in informational messages;
📚 get acquainted with effective strategies for developing critical reading;
🛠 get effective tools to use in lessons.
