Forward to the past!

Forward to the past!

This is exactly the emotion that arose in most viewers while watching the documentary film "Eurodonbas" (director Korniy Hrytsyuk, producer Anna Palenchuk). The screening of the film took place on February 9 and, as the director of the institute Yevgenia Belytska noted, with this event we are starting a series of events for the 75th anniversary of our institute.

For more than an hour, teachers and students of GIIIM, teachers and students, employees of the Bakhmut local history and Chasovoyarsk historical and local history museums, holding their breath, "traveled" through the cities of Donetsk region and Luhansk region, which preserve the European heritage of our region. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, this territory became an attractive investment project for citizens of Belgium, Britain, France, Germany and the overseas USA. Plants and factories were built here, at the same time, and even primarily, residential buildings, hospitals, a tennis court, a velodrome and other infrastructure facilities. European and American workers brought with them advanced industrial and agricultural machinery, introduced new forms of labor organization.

This progress was interrupted in 1917: the factories were nationalized, the Europeans left these places. And the future Stalinist industrialization announced its "great achievements", without mentioning the existence of such a solid foundation. The authorities did everything possible to erase from the memory of several generations the memory of the European past of this region. The film is based as much as possible on historical documents that the film crew received in European archives. Respectful attitude to the historical document is an important feature of this documentary film.

Director Korniy Hrytsyuk took part in the discussion of the film, who gave answers to the audience's questions and numerous thanks to the participants.

We join these words of thanks and wish the author group of the film new creative discoveries.

Thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to hold such meetings!
