March 20

Topic: Fundamentals of Scientometrics

These: Once a year, we discuss whether and why we can "measure" science. We clarify what scientometrics is, what data and sources it uses, what is the subject of research, what metrics exist and how they are calculated. Let's focus on the main ones: impact factor and its variations, Journal Citation Indicator, quartile, Hirsch index, CNCI, beamplots. We will find out the reasons for the correct and incorrect use of scientometrics and what the consequences may be. We will see why it is important to work with high-quality sources of information.
