On March 7, 2026, higher education students of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages of the State Higher Educational Institution of the State Pedagogical University of Ukraine joined the guest lecture of Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Italian and French Philology and Translation of the Kyiv National Linguistic University, Larisa Viktorivna Sidelnikova.
The lecture examined the symbolism of alphabetic writing systems. The objects of scientific analysis were Sanskrit, Slavic alphabet, Arabic and Greek alphabets, as well as the symbolic meaning of individual letters.
The lecturer emphasized that the alphabet is not only a technical writing tool, but also a powerful cultural code. The symbolism of letters opens up the possibility of a deeper understanding of the worldview of the peoples who created the corresponding writing systems. Even the familiar letters of the Latin alphabet appear as elements of cultural heritage and philosophical tradition.
Special attention was paid to the fact that the symbolism of letters stimulates interest in their form, graphics, and artistic potential, and also contributes to a deeper analysis of texts, especially religious and philosophical ones, where each letter may contain hidden meaning.
The lecture emphasized that the alphabet should be considered as a holistic symbolic system, in which each letter is not only a graphic sign, but also a carrier of metaphysical meaning. In the Jewish, Arabic and Greek traditions, letters have historically been associated with numerical values, cosmological concepts and sacred images.
It is especially emphasized that in certain cultural traditions, writing was perceived as a "sacred code", in which each letter could act as a sign of an idea, not just a sound. In this sense, the alphabet appears as a multidimensional system that combines linguistic, philosophical and spiritual dimensions.
