The cooperation of the Horliv Institute of Foreign Languages with the psychologists of the NGO "Proliska" began in 2019. According to the concluded agreement, the specialists of the organization systematically work with the teaching staff and students of higher education of the GIIIM. Twice a year, Proliska psychologists take part in Psychology Week, which precedes World Mental Health Day and Psychologist Day.
In April 2023, another online meeting was held, dedicated to the topic of self-harm, which is becoming more and more relevant (for reference: self-harm or self-harm is the intentional infliction of bodily harm on oneself, the cause of which is internal psychological problems, which, mostly, do not carry a threat of suicide, but can lead to it).
22 people took part in the training session - teachers and students of the Horliv Institute of Foreign Languages and all volunteers who responded to the announcement of events for the Week of Psychology from the Department of Psychology.
The theoretical part of the session included psychoeducation – explaining that self-harm usually begins as a way to reduce the pressure of difficult thoughts and can provide temporary relief from the emotional pain a person feels. But such relief is temporary, as it does not solve the problem that caused negative emotions.
In the practical part, exercises were carried out, which help to realize the importance of self-care, to focus on one's bodily sensations, and a special breathing technique was used.
The training session was very lively: the students engaged in an active dialogue with the psychologist, asked many questions about ways to psychologically support themselves and others, and thanked them for the interesting interactive session.
