An online event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945 was held with this name. It was organized by the Institute's Department of Domestic and Foreign History and the Bakhmut Museum of Local Lore, with the assistance of the Bakhmut Department of Youth Policy and Children's Affairs of the city council. Students of all specialties of the institute took an active part in the event.
The organizers and participants of the event (Ihor Kornatskyi, Tetiana Postoeva, Halyna Dokashenko, Arseniy Sitnikov) shared their vision of the content and significance of this day in our history and modernity. Museum employee Svitlana Sykvarova spoke about the difficult times of the Nazi occupation of the city of Bakhmut: the war crimes of the occupiers, the fate of the citizens who were forcibly removed to work, the underground struggle, the work of local doctors and the extent of the destruction. Yuliya Stukanova, associate professor of the department, determined the tragedy of the events of the Second World War through the fate of an individual. Using as a historical source the memoirs of the actress of the Artemiv Theater Vira Slabolytska, she showed the horror of life in the occupation, the difficulty of the ostarbaiter's fate, and the difficulty of preserving family relationships...
The participants were able to see archival documents, photographs and even a video chronicle. In the conditions of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, when Bakhmut is again occupied, some archival pictures of destroyed buildings from 1943 turned out to be, unfortunately, very similar to modern photos of the destroyed city. This once again reminded of the relevance of studying history and the importance of preserving the memory of the tragic consequences of war and occupation.
