On April 17, 2021, the teachers of the Department of World Literature held a scientific and practical seminar "SONNET GENRE IN BAROQUE LITERATURE: SCIENTIFIC AND READING DISCOURSES". It was another meeting of the virtual Literary Living Room.
Purpose and tasks:
- promote the involvement of student youth in forms of scientific and practical activity;
- to develop skills and abilities to work with educational and scientific materials, to create and present messages based on the analysis of literary works;
- to form the spiritual and value orientation and aesthetic needs of the individual based on the study of the brightest examples of literary literature, namely, the sonnet genre of the Baroque era;
- consider the work of outstanding poets of the Baroque era - masters of the sonnet genre and writers of the 20th century in connection with the aesthetic traditions of the Baroque;
- to be able to determine the originality and universal value of the works of the Baroque era;
- to educate students of higher education to respect the spiritual achievements of humanity, the ability to form, formulate and actively defend their own point of view, a system of vital, aesthetic values and priorities, the desire to have their own worldview, to preserve and continue the best national traditions.
Total number of participants - 46. The main participants of the event were 3rd-year students of FRGM and FStMK, and invited first- and fourth-year students were also present.

T.F. Rusakevich - the leading specialist of the department of scientific work of students of the State Institute of Medical Sciences
O.S. Karpina - candidate of philology. of Sciences, associate professor of the department of world literature

THEN. Voronenkova - teacher of the department of world literature.
The seminar consisted of three thematic parts.
In the first - "The Age and Aesthetics of the Baroque" - messages were heard about the chronotope and aesthetics of the Baroque (Vladislav Korobkin), the art of the Baroque era (Yulia Borteichuk, Daryna Sobol), as well as about the sonnet as a lyrical genre (Gavrylina Anastasia).
A poetic illustration of the theory became an expressive reading by heart and commenting on sonnets by Anastasia Gavrilina, Anastasia Myroshnikova, and Valeria Kucheruk.
In the second part of the seminar - "The genre of the sonnet in baroque poetry" - the poetry of John Donne (Shcherbina Anna), Luis de Gongor (Solyanyk Alona, Troyan Elizaveta), Francisco Gómez de Quevedo (Sofia Kovalenko) was presented.
The original commentaries of the learned sonnets were prepared by heart by Volodymyr Kovchenko, Anastasia Khizhnyak, Kateryna Fedchun, Oleksandr Bezsonov, Yulianna Korneeva, Diana Ermakova, Ksenia Kulinich, Anna Dergousova, Victoria Sirenko, and Polina Horyushko.
The third part - "Relevance of Baroque" - presented the perception of John Donne's imagery in the works of T.S. Eliot (Marina Vasylieva, Zadoya Liliya), E. Hemingway (Krystyna Maksimyuk), V. Styron (Eugen Gulyanov), Y. Brodsky (Iryna Kovalchuk).
Commentary and expressive recitation of sonnets by Y. Brodsky were prepared by Maria Zaliznyak, Anastasia Lytvynova, Valentina Khodareva, Vasyl Lukyshchenko, and Ariadna Tkachenko.
Special mention should be made of the performances of Volodymyr Kovchenko, Kateryna Fedchun, and Maria Zaliznyak, who performed sonnets by John Donne and Joseph Brodsky in English.
All participants of the seminar demonstrated an exemplary responsible attitude to their tasks and performed them at the appropriate level. Every performance of the student was original, meaningful and unforgettable.
General summary of the meeting led by the head of the department of world literature, professor S.A. Komarov. He emphasized the importance of baroque poetics for the literature of postmodernism; noted the positive experience of such an event, which involves students in educational and scientific research activities, contributes to the expansion of the reading experience.
In the last minutes of the seminar, the feedback of those present was heard, and there was also a chat of those who wanted to express themselves. The main content of the reviews: thanks for an interesting and informative journey into the world of beauty and wisdom.
