The war affected each of us. And it doesn't matter whether you are in relative safety or under constant fire. Today, both our physical and psychological health are under threat. More and more often, you can see how optimism is replaced by despair, joy by fear, and elation by panic.
So why do we often fluctuate between positive and negative emotions and how can we help ourselves.
EMOTIONAL SWING IS A NATURAL STATE
Emotional swings are not an official term, but they refer to sudden, sharp changes in mood that are difficult to control. This state in the conditions of war is absolutely natural and normal, but very EXHAUSTING.
We feel an emotional uplift when we accumulate a certain resource or when we need to quickly "pick ourselves up". Unfortunately, the strength is short-lived and we begin to experience a negative decline.
It is important to understand: as long as emotional fluctuations do not affect the rhythm of your usual life, do not disrupt your plans, then such a situation can be.
But if there comes a time when you cannot work either physically or psychologically, motivation and desire disappear, you fall into apathy or depressed mood - this may indicate a neurosis. And here we are not talking about a psychiatric disorder, but about drawing attention to yourself, taking care of your own psycho-emotional needs.
Emotional swings are accompanied by:
- A feeling of constant fatigue
- Increased irritability
- A decrease in working capacity
- Deterioration of sleep
- As a "squeezed lemon".
Our mind tries to find options for the future in a stressful situation to prepare, but it can't.
In addition, the causes of an unstable emotional state can be different: from hormonal imbalance to chronic stress. Therefore, it is best to contact a specialist in this case.
WAYS OF BALANCE AT THE MOMENT OF EMOTIONAL SWING
A person who is on this attraction of his own psyche feels very uncomfortable. So how can you help yourself at the moment:
- Write (preferably on paper) 3 things that you enjoy thinking about right now. These will be your strongest resources at this time. Think about what you will make of these things for yourself today.
- Plan your day. The plan is always about reducing anxiety. Do even the smallest tasks and don't devalue them.
- Include critical thinking and read only verified information from official sources. Assumptions, rumors, forecasts of various "experts" and swings only shake the psyche.
- Bring sleep back to normal (no matter how banal it sounds). Lack of sleep disrupts circadian rhythms, a person becomes distracted, irritable and depressed.
- Physical activity: do any sport, go for a walk, clean the closet or wash the dishes. This helps release negative thoughts, as the brain rests from constantly processing information.
- Control the time you spend reading or watching the news.
War exhausts and tires us. We will be shaken again and again. But we learn to understand ourselves, help and stabilize our condition.
Live the emotions, and don't let the emotions live you.
